AAR: Geocaching Personalities

Since the "You might be a Geocacher if..." campaign has concluded, I thought I'd give it some thought. Here's how I broke it down:

  1. Four new souvenirs: As I've mentioned before, I love souvenirs. They are rewards for completing tasks, and I enjoy having something that says I achieved something. (Positive)
  2. Friend League utilization: I think I used the Friend League more on this campaign than any other since the Mary Hyde campaign. In the Planetary Pursuit and Hidden Creature campaigns, all I needed to do was keep track of the number of caches I found, but this time, because of the different ways that points were earned, I would sometimes forget how many I had, and how many more I needed, to earn the next souvenir. I wanted to use the Friend League. (Positive)
  3. Point structure: Using a point structure for earning each souvenir made me think about how to earn each one. I had to optimize my caching, and get the most bang for my geocaching buck. I could have met my goals by caching normally, but I need to save caches for future campaigns, so being selective is smart. (Positive)
  4. Four months: I hate to say it, but one souvenir per month was almost too long a period between achievements. I love having enough time to complete a task, and not feeling rushed, but I almost forgot that there were souvenirs to be earned. (Sadly, negative)
So, overall, I felt that the Geocaching Personalities campaign was a positive experience. I always love getting more souvenirs, I liked feeling like the Friend League was a useful tool, because of the way that the points were earned, and even though I thought that four months was too long a period of time for the entire campaign, I was glad that I had plenty of time to complete each task (who needs the pressure?). I'm kind of bummed that there wasn't an "Ultimate Geocacher" souvenir awarded for earning all four Geocaching Personality souvenirs, but we can't win them all.

What's next? Well, after Goodbye/Hello-Last/First, it's anybody's guess. Either way, I'm looking forward to it.
