Cache Carnival

Image
Well, my suspicions have been confirmed - kind of. A Cache Carnival begins March 25, 2019, and ends on April 14, 2019 (ending one week before I predicted). During this time period, 500 points need to be scored on the Leaderboard (formerly the Friend League), in order to earn five souvenirs inspired by historic Carnival locations. You can also earn a sixth souvenir by attending a registered "Creation Celebration." In order to qualify as a "Creation Celebration," certain guidelines have to be met, as well as the usual event guidelines. I can't wait to attend a Creation Celebration, it sounds like loads of fun. Coming Soon???

There was a new, mysterious post on the Geocaching blog. The post was titled "Coming Soon..." and said, "What do these 5 locations have in common?" followed by five pictures. A Google image search identified the locations as Cologne, Nice, Lagoa (Rio de Janeiro), New Orleans and Venice. A keyword search led me to several articles claiming that these locations had some of the best Carnival and Mardi Gras celebrations in the world. My theory is that there will be a souvenir extravaganza, similar to last year's Planetary Pursuit, for the four weeks prior to Easter. What do you think? Edit 02/19/19: Within the past two days, there has been an addition to the post - "....March 25, 2019." This is confirmation of my theory. With a little research, I learned that Easter is on April 21, 2019 this year, and March 25 is the fourth Monday before that date.
