2020 - A Geocacher's Year in Review
Despite all of that, I was able to accomplish the things illustrated in the graphic below:
I was able to earn all but two of the souvenirs that came out this year - due to COVID-19, there were no CITO events in my area. Some had been planned, but they were cancelled. If I lived further West, I probably could have earned them, I'm disappointed to miss out on them. We went to New York, a new state for us to cache in, and found enough caches to earn the Experience Tioga County GeoTour geocoin. My 2500 find achievement was published in FTF Geocacher magazine. I completed the "Walk the Camino de Santiago with the FTF Guy," put out an Adventure Lab and completed the virtual "Lost Places World Tour."
So, for this upcoming year, the main goal, once again, is the Trifecta. We'll plan on attending the Geocaching 20th Anniversary Celebration, the Project APE mega event and GeoWoodstock 2020 in Canada. While in Seattle, and attending various events, we'll plan to find the last Project APE cache in the United States, visit Geocaching Headquarters and the Original Stash Plaque. In the process of our travels, I hope to complete the HQ GeoTour and do the Finding Bigfoot GeoTour with my step-daughter and step-granddaughters. Due to the 20th Anniversary Celebration, a Locationless cache was made available for one year only, and I hope that it will still be available in 2021 so that I can "find" that one. I also want to particicpate in the Sherlock - A Novel Cache, a seven geocache geocoin hunt, if it's still being held.
There's also plenty of unfinished business caches to get the souvenirs. I still have four caches left in the Berkeley Gadgets GeoTour (one's been added since last year), 38 caches in the Find Your Chesapeake GeoTour (we found two this year) and four more caches left in the Experience Tioga County GeoTour.
I was also awarded a second Adventure Lab cache to put out, and it was supposed to have expired on December 31, 2020, but I hope that it's still available to put out - I kind of have an idea, but need to do some research before putting it out there. If 2021 is an improvement over 2020, I should be able to accomplish some of these goals.
