Making Memories
The latest souvenir campaign has been announced on the Geocaching blog! It makes use of the Leaderboard, which hasn't been used for a campaign in a while. It's also a global participation thing, like with the Cosmic Quest's Lift Off souvenir. So, here's how I understand it - between July 21 and August 17, all of the geocachers in the world have the opportunity to fill up Signal's 25th anniversary scrapbook - 25 million pages worth! Using the Leaderboard, we can keep track of how many pages of the scrapbook we fill, as well as how many pages have been filled up globally. Our individual actions will fill up pages like this:
- Log a Found it on any cache, except Webcams - 1 page
- Attend an event - 3 pages
- Receive a Favorite Point on an owned geocache - 3 pages
- Find an Adventure Lab location - 1 page
- Find a geocache with 5+ Favorite Points - 3 pages
- Collect a Making Memories treasure - 5 pages
- Crafty Cacher - earn this by completing the Making Memories treasure collection
- Memory Maker - earn this by contributing at least 40 pages to the scrapbook
- Signal's Scrapbook - if, by the end of the campaign, 25 million pages have been filled, all participants will be awarded this souvenir on August 18
I'm ready to go and start #MakingMemoriesGC!
Update 08/12/25: It was just announced that during the final week of the Making Memories campaign, more ways to fill pages are being offered. For every Found It or Attended logged, additional pages will be awarded based on the difficulty/terrain rating. Multiply the difficulty rating by 2 for that number of additional pages, and do the same with the terrain rating. So, a geocache with a D/T rating of 2/1.5 and less than 5 favorite points will, if my math is correct, garner eight pages. Log the cache for 1 page, the D2 will count for 4 pages and the T1.5 will add 3 pages. In addition to that, if one of them qualifies as a treasure item, and you haven't already earned all six, that's an additional 5 pages. Procrastinating just got cool! Don't forget that this Saturday is International Geocaching Day, and you can earn a souvenir for logging a find on a geocache, complete an Adventure Lab location or attend an event this weekend.
