Hopefully everyone has been climbing their peaks every month because the next challenge begins January 3. This month, the South American peak of Aconcagua will be our focus. For the Basecamp souvenir, a total of 350 points must be accumulated, and for the Summit souvenir, we'll need 6960 points. How are you doing climbing those mountains? Starting December 6, at 8 a.m., we get to start climbing a new one - Denali ! You only need 350 points in order to get the Basecamp souvenir, but the Summit souvenir needs 6190 points this time. Let's close the book on 2021, but open a new one in 2022 by earning two new souvenirs - Fin 2021 and Once Upon a Time 2022. This year, a whole week will be alotted to earn each souvenir. The Fin 2021 souvenir can be earned by logging a find from December 24 - December 31, and the Once Upon a Time 2022 souvenir can be earned by logging a find from January 1 - January 8. FTF Geocacher magazine has an on-going contest - an image of Sparticus06 is hidden in every issue, and if you find him and send an e-mail with his location to the magazine, you're entered into the drawing for an "I Found Sparticus" pathtag. Well, I've been entering the contest ever since I started subscribing to the magazine and wouldn't you know it, today, I finally received a pathtag! My geo-nick should be published in the next issue. So, weigh in, now that I've received one pathtag, should I stop submitting or should I continue to find Sparticus and attempt to win more pathtags?

International EarthCache Day is the second Sunday of October and this year it falls on October 10, 2021. Earn your souvenir by logging an EarthCache on either of October 9 or 10. Read more about it here .

It's almost autumn and Season 2 of Cache In, Trash Out 2021 begins today (September 1) and runs through November 30. I look forward to getting out there and helping to improve our game's playing field - and, of course, earning a souvenir at the same time!

The next set of Reach the Peak souvenirs will be available beginning September 6. Vinson Peak in Antarctica is the next peak that we're shooting for. This year celebrates the 10th anniversary of International Geocaching Day! It's celebrated on the third Saturday of August, and in order to earn your souvenir, log a find on any geocache or Adventure Lab on August 21 or 22, 2021.

The newest off-planet trackable will be available for logging towards the end of 2021! WISA Plywood will be launching the world's first wooden satellite Travel Bug, WISA Woodsat . The nanosatellite will be testing the viability of wood products, such as WISA Plywood, in space vehicles, by exposing it to extreme space conditions, such as heat, cold, vacuum and radiation. The satellite's suite of sensors will measure changes in the wood material. A camera mounted to a selfie-style stick will also help monitor these changes, but it will also capture the tracking code in images which can be found in the image gallery at wisawoodsat.space . Woo hoo! Geocaching has just announced a new campaign - " Reach the Peak ." This campaign begins August 2, 2021 and ends March 6, 2022. Each month, there will be the ability to earn 2 souvenirs based on a featured mountain peak on each continent - the Basecamp and the Summit. If you earn all 14, you'll also earn a final, meta-souvenir (Peak Performer). To earn the souvenirs, we have to earn enough points, and the point values for different types of finds will change monthly. The new point values will be shared by Geocaching on the last Tuesday of each month - before the leaderboard refreshes on the first Monday of the next month. At that point, there will be a new mountain peak with new point values and goals for the next set of souvenirs. August's souvenirs start with the continent of Oceania and the mountain peak Puncak Jaya. Yesterday, Tom and I returned from New Jersey and a brutal six days working on the American Revolution GeoTrail . I first learned about it last year, while looking up information for 2020's Metro Gathering , which was being held in conjunction with the kick-off of the GeoTrail. Well, the event didn't happen, due to COVID, but the GeoTrail launch did. 77 caches were placed throughout the northern half of New Jersey, at locations significant to the American Revolution. The first 100 geocachers to find a minimum of 50 of these caches - 27 of which are required - will be awarded a geocoin. Unfortunately, one of the required caches is inside the Ford Mansion (Washington's Headquarters), which has been closed to the public ever since the COVID epidemic. We'll have to go back when it re-opens in order to earn our geocoin. For the most part, we really enjoyed our time visiting the historic locations and learning the stories about the people that helped form our nation.

Blue Switch Day is on May 2, but you can earn the souvenir for 2021 by logging a find on a geocacheor Adventure Lab or attending an event. Read a little more about Blue Switch Day 2021 here .

Geocaching's latest souvenir campaign, the Science of Discovery, begins April 12, 2021 and ends July 11, 2021. We can earn up to four souvenirs by collecting points, with a focus on Adventure Lab locations. The points can be earned by finding (and logging) the following: Adventure Lab Cache (Adventure location) - 10 pts A cache with 10+ favorite points - 9 pts An EarthCache - 8 pts A Mystery cache - 7 pts A Multi Cache - 6 pts Any other cache type - 5 pts The four souvenirs that you can earn are: Rocket Science - 50 points Geology - 100 points Environmental Science - 200 points Futurology - 300 points Read more about this campaign on the blog post , and don't forget to track your progress on your Leaderboard

It has begun! 2021's Cache In, Trash Out Season 1 scheduled to begin March 1, 2021 and end May 31, 2021 - has been extended until August 31. I can't wait to get out there and help improve our environment - I missed it last year.

Right on time, NASA's Perseverance rover has landed on Mars! Don't forget that the rover is trackable, and pretty soon it will take a picture of the trackable code, found on the calibration target, and send that picture back to Earth. Raw images from the rover can be found here , and hopefully the image of the trackable code will be posted there. If that doesn't work, check out the trackable's page periodically for the opportunity to log it.

Are you ready for more Wonders of the World ? The newest Geocaching campaign, an extension of last year's Wonders of the World, was announced today. It begins February 24, has no ending date at this time, and works the same way, caches are assigned attributes (this time Natural and Solar System Wonders) and must be found and logged in the correct order to earn the souvenirs. First, you must have completed the prior campaign - so find all of your Modern and Ancient Wonders of the World, in that order, to earn the World Explorer souvenir. After that, start working on the Natural Wonders, then the Solar System Wonders. Once you've collected all of those, you'll earn the Ultimate Explorer souvenir. So keep track of your Wonders and go get those souvenirs!

Today, a new Locationless cache was published. Let's improve the outdoors - Locationless Cache can be logged between February 6, 2021 and December 31, 2021, by posting a picture of you, or a personal item, with your results from improving the outdoors. In addition to earning a locationless cache icon, a souvenir will be awarded to your profile when you log this one, so go out and plant a tree, improve a park or just clean up some trash in your neighborhood - it's CITO on a completely different scale! Wow! This past year did not turn out the way I expected. Despite all of my well laid-out plans, things just did not work out. I had made travel arrangements for an epic trip to Washington state for different activities, but they were all cancelled due to the pandemic. Despite all of that, I was able to accomplish the things illustrated in the graphic below: I was able to earn all but two of the souvenirs that came out this year - due to COVID-19, there were no CITO events in my area. Some had been planned, but they were cancelled. If I lived further West, I probably could have earned them, I'm disappointed to miss out on them. We went to New York, a new state for us to cache in, and found enough caches to earn the Experience Tioga County GeoTour geocoin. My 2500 find achievement was published in FTF Geocacher magazine. I completed the "Walk the Camino de Santiago with the FTF Guy," put out an Adventure Lab and completed the virtual "Lost Places World Tour.
